Mrauk U is the countryside town nowadays but once it was royal capital of Arakanese Kingdom (Between 14 AD~18 AD). It was also an important port in Myanmar and also served as a trading hub. It is also an important archeological site in Myanmar. For the customers who love culture and history and who would like to avoid the mass of tourists, Mrauk U is recommendable. The town itself is very peaceful and calm like a village. The temples and pagodas such as Koe Thaung pagoda, Shit Thaung Pagoda, Mingalar Zedi, Htukhanthien pagoda are the main attractions. Day trips to Chin villages near-by Laymyo River is also recommendable where you can see the tattooed faced Chin women. If you have more time, Vesali and Mahamuni pagoda are extendable. The boat trip between Sittwe and Mrauk U is delightful. You may be seen the dolphins along the Kaladan River if you are lucky.
