New Tourist Site Opening in Yangon, Myanmar
The “Secretariat building” which is the biggest colonial building in South East Asia has been opened since the beginning of December. It was heavily guarded place before that. Currently it is opened for the public on Mondays to Fridays with 4 times a day guided tours (slots available at 0930, 1130, 1330, and 1530 respectively) and on Saturdays at 0930 am only. Entrance fee is USD 6 per person.
Yangon Heritage Trust chairman Dr. Thant Myint-U said in previous interview with the Myanmar Times about the building: “The Secretariat is a place of tremendous historical importance and a physical link to Myanmar’s colonial history as well as the history of anticolonialism and the early post-independence governments.
